October 18-Monsters of Rock PDX 5

As quoted by organizers of Monsters of Rock (MOR):

“Monsters Of Rock Portland is dedicated to joining some of the most accomplished local musicians from past to present. To foster an environment of unity and community that respects and celebrates the shared passion of Rock-N-Roll music. Monsters Of Rock Portland will be hosting events that bring this shared passion to the audience as well. The idea that the local music community should become closer is not new. Our team now can reach a variety and vast demographic that allows this dream to come true. The most important thing, is what we as musicians take away from these events: New relationships , old friends reuniting, and the bond of sharing music together while entertaining the most important thing to us as musicians..our FANS!”

MORPDX5 will be hosted at Dante’s located in downtown Portland on the corner of 2nd and Burnside.  Ticket sales are only $10 and proceeds benefit ARRO Autism Research and Resources of Oregon.  Check out the video produced and edited by George Sanders for a quick recap from last year’s MORPDX4:

Harefest season is upon us! July 19/20th

Harefest!  What is not to love?  Taking you back to my first Harefest experience…

It started out as my endeavor to participate in Portland’s music scene where my love of music sparked reminiscing of my days when I was a single girl.  Leaving a marriage that was bad from the start (there’s a song in there somewhere!),   I was excited to enjoy once again what was deep in my heart-music!

January of 2012, a co-worker had shared after hearing I favored 80’s tunes, that an event held was being held at the Crystal Ballroom featuring an 80’s band.  Not quite a Cinderella story, but read on.  Researching, I discovered the name of this all 80’s hits cover band was known as Radical Revolution- one of a list of many bands that are associated with J-fell productions. Moments later, I learned my supervisor was celebrating her birthday as well.  Coincidently–she was hosting her celebration at the Crystal Ballroom the very night Radical Revolution was playing.  No further prodding necessary, I was going!

Radical Revolution not only blew me away with the fun tunes that brought back so many fun memories for me,  (Take on Me, Jack and Diane, Pour Some Sugar on Me to name a few)but the show was followed by a Journey tribute band-Stone In Love.  Enticed to stay longer and listen to a band cover songs from one of my all-time favorite bands, I was hooked!

Call me a groupie, call me what you will, but I was on a high checking out the two bands calendar schedule, quickly added them to my facebook page, and signed up for the email list to be kept up to date of future events.  There it was, another event produced by J-fell Productions, Harefest 2, 2012!

Shoot To Thrill- ACDC Tribute

Reading the short excerpts about this event, I was stoked to explore this music festival making noise in Canby, Oregon.  I was going to catch a glimpse of the two bands that re-ignited my passion for music. What I didn’t know was I was about to be rocked like a hurricane!

From the Friday night start, to the end of Saturday night, the weekend was one amazing tribute band after another.  Radical Revolution was joined on stage with Stone In Love (Journey), Appetite for Deception (Guns ‘N Roses), Random Pressure (cover songs of various bands), and Jordan Harris who performs in a band Guy Dilly and the Twin Powers (originals), and more!

The show was tantalizing and enthralling playing non-stop aside from the transitions between bands. Food was available by the sponsoring business, The Wild Hare Saloon.  A generous neighbor offered camping for all. Concluding my weekend, one of the best discoveries I made were the friendships I hold close to my heart to this day.

Harefest is the Woodstock of Canby, Oregon!  Each year it has just improved its production from the years before and the bands get tighter.  What is my regret?  That I missed the very first one.  It’s fun, it’s festive, it’s a great escape from the monotony of life, all within a short drive from Portland.

Maybe you have missed out on the prior years, but you are in for a RADICAL show!  The lineup has added even more tribute bands than ever, the stage setting is stunning, and the performances are explosive!  The countdown has begun for HAREFEST 2014!

Band members include: Maury Brown-guitar and vocals, Jeff Krebs-bass and vocals, Kevin Rankin-Drums and vocals, Ted Berry-lead guitar and vocals, and Evan Berry-lead vocals.
Seeing these musicians on stage performing live will not only entice you to rock along with the best of the groupies, but their showmanship will certainly keep you coming back for more! One can not possibly take their eyes off Ted. Mesmerized by his mad guitar skills,  good luck trying to follow him as he is always on the move!  Keeping the band in time, Kevin Rankin is also one to keep your eye on–seriously, see if you catch his tricks!  One thing is absolute, you will always see him smiling.  Jeff Krebs–one laid back bass player, enjoying his time on stage with his brothers.  Maury, that guy is not only a great guitarist, but clearly shows the love of his band members on stage.   And finally, leading the group on vocals is Evan Berry–young face, amazing voice!
Together, these five brothers will shake you ALL NIGHT LONG!  Even sweeter, they have a heart for charity and are playing at the Dublin Pub on April 18th, in Raleigh Hills in honor of Ashlyn Fuller:

We’ll be performing all night (2 sets of AC/DC as well as 1 set of other material from the likes of Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, and more as the “Burnside 5″). Cost is only $5 (cash only at the door)”

Water Buffaloes: New Copper Penny, Feb 14, 2014

The Water Buffaloes packed them in  at the New Copper Penny with some awesome hits from “Rocky Mountain Way” to “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” last Valentine’s day, 2014. Lead vocalist Tony Profitt fired up the crowd by joining them on the dance floor while Jeff Stephens cranked stellar solos on the guitar. Rounding off the band members you have dual lead guitar Mike McGrady, Troy Thomas on bass, and Keith Parkhurst keeping time on drums. These guys have a very playful spirit and love to get the audience involved. If ever you get a chance to see their performance, you will be sure to leave wanting more.

3 bands in one night at The New Copper Penny!

Kicking off the evening was Black Powder County making their debut appearance!  You have to keep an eye out for this group of young gentlemen.  They are a fresh, new band whose sound compares to that of Metallica, Avenged Sevenfol, or even some Rose Tattoo.  One of the things I found impressive was the drum skills of young Josh Betschart.  This powerhouse started the night strong, and ended with a crowd hungry for more.

Next up was When Vanity Kills.  With melodious harmony stemming from Heidi Canfield and Deborah Louie, this pop/rock group has potential for their originals to end up on chart hits.  Capping off their set was quite the jam with just the trio of Keith Parkhurst, drummer, Chris Beltran, guitarist, and bass player Doug Elia.

The finale for the evening was Moon shine who gave it’s consistently high quality performance with covers from Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, and White Zombie to name a few.  This trio packs in a punch each and every song!

“SIX PACK LIVE” at the Roseland Theater

If you were not at the Roseland Theater  the weekend of the 17th and 18th of January 2014,  you were denied the absolute kickoff show of the year 2014!  Two exciting nights were filled with mind-blowing performances by the popular following bands:  Jennifer Batten (solo performance), Shoot To Thrill (AC/DC tribute), Appetite For Deception (Guns N Roses tribute), One From Many (O.F.M.), Jukebox Heroes (Foreigner Tribute) and rounding off the night with Stone In Love (Journey tribute).

Jennifer’s mad guitar skills opened the weekend reminding the audience that this girl can rock!  Shoot to Thrill astounded the audience with bringing on a guest appearance from Mark Mullaney who blazed the stage on the bagpipes.  Appetite For Deception rounded the evening off with talent steaming from all corners of the stage.  Andrew Greene’s drum solo mesmerized the audience leaving them hungry for more.

Night two kicked off with fairly new group One From Many (O.F.M.) showcasing their dynamic originals.  Band member Josh “Trigger” Elie captivated the audience with his guitar solos.  By the end of the set, One From Many left the stage rapidly increasing their popularity.  Jukebox Heroes followed O.F.M. displaying a fantastic performance that rocked the crowd from beginning to end, and everywhere in between.  Stone In Love capped off the weekend performances leaving the audience packed up front belting out Journey tunes right along with powerful performer Kevin Hahn.

For whatever reason you were unable to make the shows, do not be dismayed.  You can check out the calendar for upcoming performances.  I’ll see you there! RNR!!
